We are still here, still working and still training your apprentices

Management Apprentice: Business as usual during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Since lockdown began we have spoken to many clients and received a lot of enquiries from people who are looking to begin or continue their apprenticeship programmes after lockdown – so we want to let you know that our Apprenticeship programmes are not on hold.

The Management and Leadership Apprenticeship programmes that we offer are supported with online learning, which means that your learners don’t need to be in the workplace to study or apply their learning. Though there may be some aspects of the hands-on application of learning which need to be adapted, the study itself can be carried out whether the learner is in office, in role, working from home or even furloughed.

Rather than this time when workforces are necessarily home based or unable to work being a pause in their development, why not make good use of the levy funding you’ve already put aside, and invest in the continued growth and professional knowledge of your future leaders, and begin (or continue) a Management Apprenticeship programme.

You can run these courses for just one learner, or you can have large groups carrying out the learning simultaneously who can share their learning and discuss their apprenticeship programme, supporting their development, via our online learning platform.

Though the learning application in the workplace might need to be adapted, depending on your current and ongoing situation as the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted and adapted, all of our online learning is available with support from dedicated tutors and our administrative team are still working full time to ensure that your questions are answered and resources available when you need them.

Don’t let this difficult time impact the future of your business; let your team know that their future with your organisation matters, and invest in their development. Not only will this mean that you benefit from the development of their skills, knowledge and experience as future leaders and managers, you also show that you value their growth and the impact they will have on the future of your business, and benefit from their loyalty in return.

With such significant mutual benefit, now is the ideal time to begin – and even team members who are furloughed can study towards an apprenticeship qualification, so nobody needs to miss out on this opportunity. Even better, if you have been paying into a Government levy, these programmes won’t cost you a penny more than what you’ve already invested.

Call now  on 03300 241336 or email hello@managementapprentice.com for more information, or to discuss the next steps for your learners.

Where can I study for a management apprenticeship?

This is a question we are being asked a lot; “where do I study?” and it’s one of the easiest questions to answer;

Wherever you work.

The best thing about the leadership apprenticeships we offer – both the level 3 and level 5 diploma for managers and leaders – is that you aren’t tied to a college or classroom environment. You study in the workplace, and work towards your qualifications during the daily routines of your normal working day, supported by your own managers and teammates.

Apprenticeships are a flexible, achievable way to develop your career whilst still earning – and they are a fantastic tool for organisations of any size to invest in the development and growth of their future leaders, supporting and encouraging their learning and experience as they grow into the role of team leader, supervisor or manager.

How does this work for your organisation?

If you have a wage bill over £3 million you will have paid into the Apprenticeship Levy, and have invested in a pot of money which is there specifically to cover the cost of these courses. You won’t have to pay another penny out of pocket – because you’ve already made the investment, and now it’s time to reap the rewards. It frees up your existing L&D budget for other development needs.

If you don’t pay into the Apprenticeship Levy you can still introduce an Apprentice Programme and pay direct for the delivery – the pricing for Level 3 is £4,500, and Level 5 is just £7,000.

Your employees could be benefiting from the support and guidance of our management apprenticeship course leaders, guiding them through the learning process and teaching them the skills they need to be fantastic managers and leaders.

As the apprentice learners progress through the course, they apply their learning to real-world situations within the workplace – meaning that you benefit from their increased knowledge and experience, and support their learning in the environment of your organisation, tailoring the learning to suit your specific working models and situations.

It’s a win-win situation, where the skills of your workforce are increased, the cost is already covered, and you don’t face the strains of staff turnover or recruitment, filling the needs of tomorrow, today.

All you need to do to set the wheels in motion is request more information through our contact form, or call our team on (03300) 241336 and you could be benefiting from your existing investments.

Protect your organisation from the risk of stagnation; allow the innate skills of your existing workforce to grow into the leadership skills that your team will most benefit from – and reap the rewards of satisfied, supported workers who are growing into their future role, thriving in your workplace.

Levy funding investments will expire

In April 2017 the way that apprenticeships are funded changed, with the introduction of Levy Funding; those businesses which qualified invested these sums to an apprenticeship service account with the intention of using those funds to develop the skills and qualifications of team members – but, with little idea about what to do next, many have gone no further, unsure of how to progress, leaving the funds sitting and building as they ponder what to do next.

One thing many people haven’t factored in is that there is a cut off point for this money – that 24 months after the initial investment, the invested sum will expire. This means that your money – money which you have already spent through this investment programme, could go to waste, and you will no longer be able to access it for the education of your organisation’s apprentices.

As April 2017 is the earliest these investments could be backdated to, that means that April of this year is the point when many invested sums will begin to expire – and this could be what happens to your money.

To prevent missing out on the chance to benefit from the investment you have – as we said – already made, consider spending the funds which are building up in your apprenticeship investing account on our management apprenticeship courses, which will develop the skills and experience of your workforce; work with us to build the managers and leaders of tomorrow within your existing team.

For more information on the programmes, on how we handle the stress of the finances, and how our courses can enhance the skills, knowledge and professional expertise of your future leaders and managers, give us a call or download our guide, and let’s make the most of the investment you’ve already made, before it’s too late.

World of Learning; apprentice zone

Last week we were at the World of Learning event in Birmingham, where Toni Clarkson spoke in the apprentice zone about ‘Management Apprentice; a route to leadership’ – which saw a lot of people approaching our stand wanting further information on how we could help with Levy investments, apprenticeships and further development of future leaders.

Some images from the event are below – as you can see, we had with us some well-known faces offering their own insights into successful leadership; none other than Management Guru David Brent and Assistant (to the) regional manager, Gareth Keenan!

If you have any follow-up questions about the topics covered in Toni’s talk, or want further information on how to invest your Levy funding in management apprenticeships through us, give us a call on 03300 241336 or download a brochure directly and contact us here.

The event was a great way to meet many of you face to face, and we are looking forward to next time!

World of Learning

Today and tomorrow we are thrilled to be at the World of Learning event in Birmingham – and we are even more thrilled that we will be bringing some special guests; take a peek at this video from our good friends over at ASK Europe, and come to stand G60 to meet our team, talk about management apprenticeships and pick up a few of our brochures.

Don’t forget to say hello to our very own Alia Taub, who will be giving a presentation on Management Apprenticeships, a route to leadership.

Not going to Uni? There’s another path to success.

Once seen as the poor relative of further education, modern Apprenticeships are far more than a backup plan or a fall-back if you didn’t get the A level results you needed for your university of choice.

Apprenticeships offer an on-the-job learning experience that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom – and the chance to earn as you learn. This means that, rather than being a second choice, opting for an apprenticeship could see you climbing the career ladder sooner, with less student debts, and gaining invaluable in-role experience as you complete your studies.

When you’ve followed a path through education that traditionally wants to guide you towards university, it can feel like the bottom has dropped out of your world if you don’t get the A level grades you were hoping for – but we have guided a great many people through their Level 3 and Level 5 diplomas in Leadership and Development, who have gone on to achieve successful, top-level careers in a wide range of industries.

Apprenticeships in Leadership and Development can take you anywhere – no matter what professional environment you see in your future, the invaluable skills you’ll learn during the process will bring out your best and take you to the top of your game.

Even if you achieved top marks across the board in your A levels, university might not be the direction you see yourself going in – after all, it’s another three years of debts and shared accommodation that just might not be your bag; instead, consider embracing the opportunity to cement your leadership skills, earn as you progress, and let us oversee your apprenticeship.

Leadership skills you can learn with us

There is so much more to leadership and management than simply ‘being in charge’ – and it’s something which comes with experience, and the right guidance. The right guidance is where we come in – and we’ll help you through the full programme of your learning as you gain the experience you need to succeed.

But what, exactly, do you need to learn to be a great leader or manager? Here’s just some of the areas we cover in our Level 3 and Level 5 Diplomas:

Communication

Not just telling people what to do – but effectively communicating what you need to, why you need tasks to be fulfilled, who you trust to do those things, and how you listen to your team in response. Communication is a two-way street, and it’s just as important to listen as it is to speak – and the best leaders know the right time for both.

Organisation

Managing the day-to-day tasks that come with managing a team, heading up a business, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly can be quite the challenge – and part of your learning is how to prioritise your workload, delegate to the appropriate people, and ensure that everything goes to plan, all tasks are completed, and any surprises are effectively managed.

How to manage people

As well as being ‘in charge’ and leading from the front, leaders and managers have to understand their team, as a whole and as individuals, and how to meet their needs as well as expecting a high standard from them in the workplace. Managing people can be challenging, particularly if you’re new to a senior position – so you’ll learn, in practice and in theory, how to handle complex situations, how to communicate in challenging times, and how to inspire and guide your team.

Project Management

Knowing what to do, when, and in what order can seem overwhelming – so we’ll teach you to break a project down into smaller tasks, understand how to prioritise and delegate, and plan for every eventuality, ensuring that no balls get dropped and nothing is left unfinished on your watch!

Finance

Business relies on profit – and keeping track of this profit, the costs of running a business, the income brought in, and the accounting of all those figures is something you’ll have to understand, even if the accounting itself is carried out by someone else; an understanding of the figures and how they are impacted by the performance of your team is a vital component in successful leadership.

Problem Solving

Sometimes things don’t go entirely to plan – and it’s up to you to find a way through the situation; problem solving can mean anything from rearranging a rota to dealing with angry customers, and anything in between – and you need to learn how to keep your cool and break the situation down so that you can handle it.

Self-Awareness

Key to great leadership is understanding your own strengths and weaknesses – and those of everyone in your team, so that you can work as a cohesive whole to be sure that everything is done well. It isn’t your job as leader to be bigger, better and louder than your team – it’s your job to understand how everyone functions together, and this means that self-awareness is a key skill.

As you can see, there’s a lot to learn but don’t worry; we are there for every step of the process, and we work with the organisation you work for to create a supportive network of people who will guide you through the learning process, support you in applying what you learn to the workplace, and answer any questions or concerns you might have as the learning progresses.
