We are still here, still working and still training your apprentices

Management Apprentice: Business as usual during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Since lockdown began we have spoken to many clients and received a lot of enquiries from people who are looking to begin or continue their apprenticeship programmes after lockdown – so we want to let you know that our Apprenticeship programmes are not on hold.

The Management and Leadership Apprenticeship programmes that we offer are supported with online learning, which means that your learners don’t need to be in the workplace to study or apply their learning. Though there may be some aspects of the hands-on application of learning which need to be adapted, the study itself can be carried out whether the learner is in office, in role, working from home or even furloughed.

Rather than this time when workforces are necessarily home based or unable to work being a pause in their development, why not make good use of the levy funding you’ve already put aside, and invest in the continued growth and professional knowledge of your future leaders, and begin (or continue) a Management Apprenticeship programme.

You can run these courses for just one learner, or you can have large groups carrying out the learning simultaneously who can share their learning and discuss their apprenticeship programme, supporting their development, via our online learning platform.

Though the learning application in the workplace might need to be adapted, depending on your current and ongoing situation as the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted and adapted, all of our online learning is available with support from dedicated tutors and our administrative team are still working full time to ensure that your questions are answered and resources available when you need them.

Don’t let this difficult time impact the future of your business; let your team know that their future with your organisation matters, and invest in their development. Not only will this mean that you benefit from the development of their skills, knowledge and experience as future leaders and managers, you also show that you value their growth and the impact they will have on the future of your business, and benefit from their loyalty in return.

With such significant mutual benefit, now is the ideal time to begin – and even team members who are furloughed can study towards an apprenticeship qualification, so nobody needs to miss out on this opportunity. Even better, if you have been paying into a Government levy, these programmes won’t cost you a penny more than what you’ve already invested.

Call now  on 03300 241336 or email hello@managementapprentice.com for more information, or to discuss the next steps for your learners.

Where can I study for a management apprenticeship?

This is a question we are being asked a lot; “where do I study?” and it’s one of the easiest questions to answer;

Wherever you work.

The best thing about the leadership apprenticeships we offer – both the level 3 and level 5 diploma for managers and leaders – is that you aren’t tied to a college or classroom environment. You study in the workplace, and work towards your qualifications during the daily routines of your normal working day, supported by your own managers and teammates.

Apprenticeships are a flexible, achievable way to develop your career whilst still earning – and they are a fantastic tool for organisations of any size to invest in the development and growth of their future leaders, supporting and encouraging their learning and experience as they grow into the role of team leader, supervisor or manager.

How does this work for your organisation?

If you have a wage bill over £3 million you will have paid into the Apprenticeship Levy, and have invested in a pot of money which is there specifically to cover the cost of these courses. You won’t have to pay another penny out of pocket – because you’ve already made the investment, and now it’s time to reap the rewards. It frees up your existing L&D budget for other development needs.

If you don’t pay into the Apprenticeship Levy you can still introduce an Apprentice Programme and pay direct for the delivery – the pricing for Level 3 is £4,500, and Level 5 is just £7,000.

Your employees could be benefiting from the support and guidance of our management apprenticeship course leaders, guiding them through the learning process and teaching them the skills they need to be fantastic managers and leaders.

As the apprentice learners progress through the course, they apply their learning to real-world situations within the workplace – meaning that you benefit from their increased knowledge and experience, and support their learning in the environment of your organisation, tailoring the learning to suit your specific working models and situations.

It’s a win-win situation, where the skills of your workforce are increased, the cost is already covered, and you don’t face the strains of staff turnover or recruitment, filling the needs of tomorrow, today.

All you need to do to set the wheels in motion is request more information through our contact form, or call our team on (03300) 241336 and you could be benefiting from your existing investments.

Protect your organisation from the risk of stagnation; allow the innate skills of your existing workforce to grow into the leadership skills that your team will most benefit from – and reap the rewards of satisfied, supported workers who are growing into their future role, thriving in your workplace.

What do you learn with a management apprenticeship?

This question has a range of answers – and they all include “everything that makes a great manager and leader, for every organisation, in every industry!”

Leadership – and managing a team of employees – comes down to far more than knowing how to face conversations, how to maintain documentation, how to delegate tasks among a team, and the operational and financial management of the company’s assets. It’s about inspiring people, supporting people, understanding business, and being passionate about the organisation and the people within it.

Great leadership means committing to performing well – and to supporting the whole team to do the same.

How can you inspire that kind of attitude in your future leaders?

To put it simply; support their development.

If you want to be sure that your future managers and leaders are as passionate about the growth and success of your organisation as you are, you need to show them that their professional development matters to you and to your company.

One way to do that is to invest in their growth, and support that development in a practical and effective way; an apprenticeship in leadership and management.

Don’t let your workforce stagnate and look elsewhere for their growth opportunities – nurture them, develop the skills they were employed for in the first place, and make use of the financial investments you have already made into your Apprenticeship Levy – and encourage your team to take part in a level 3 or 5 ILM accredited apprenticeship for leaders and managers.

If you have a wage bill over £3 million, you will already have invested in the Apprenticeship Levy  – the cost for these apprenticeships is covered, and you won’t need to pay a penny more towards the training; our full cost is covered by the funds in your levy accounts. It frees up your existing L&D budget for other development needs.

If you don’t pay into the Apprenticeship Levy you can still introduce an Apprentice Programme and pay direct for the delivery – the prices for Level 3 are £4,500, and for Level 5 it’s just £7,000.

Who are apprenticeships right for?

There’s an outdated – and very inaccurate – view of apprenticeships, which marks them out as a lesser choice, and purely for those who want to get into blue collar professions.

But since 2016 a significant number of businesses across the UK have been paying into the apprenticeship levy – building a significant funding pool intended to cover the costs of apprenticeships for the development of their workforce. This funding can cover any apprenticeship – and that includes training your leaders of tomorrow.

Modern apprenticeships are a world away from the low paid training of years gone by; they are the best way to train for your future whilst earning for your present, building your skills and experience whilst you also build your relationship with the team, you’re embedded in.

Every successful leader knows that it’s far more successful to train your future leaders from within, building on the skills and traits that you need for your senior roles, than it is to recruit them from external sources where they might not understand or embody the values that are important to your organisation.

That is what makes management apprenticeships the ideal solution to your future needs – developing the skills of your existing team to encourage and support their development. This not only means that you are likely to secure strong leaders and managers for your team, it also saves time and investment in drawn out recruitment processes and reduces the turnover of people who don’t feel fulfilled or that their developmental needs are being met.

It seems like a win-win situation, investing instead in training the existing members of your workforce – and when you also keep in mind that you’ve already been paying for this training, with the apprenticeship levy investments that your company have been contributing towards, it’s also not going to cost you anything more than you’ve already paid out.

Apprenticeships are ideal for anyone who wants to secure the future of their brand. Those studying for the ILM Level 3 diploma for leaders and managers are being given the skills and experience which make them strong team leaders or supervisors. They will develop a better understanding of how to maintain and manage standards of work, support and guide their team even under pressure, and communicate effectively as the face of the company.

For more senior management positions, the ILM Level 5 diploma for leaders and managers builds on those skills, as well as covering the specific skills and tasks that a leader or manager is expected to carry out.

A benefit of working with the Management Apprentice team is that we can tailor the specifics of these apprenticeships to suit your organisation – embed your values and the behaviours that matter most to you. We aren’t just teaching leadership and management skills – we can teach the skills which matter to your organisation – and protect you against the challenges which your company’s future might face.

If your organisation has been making payments into the Apprenticeship Levy and you aren’t sure how to invest the money before it expires, call us today; we can guide you through the process and help you to protect your organisation against the leadership skills gap that could see your team stagnate.

Why apprenticeships?

We know – it’s a word that makes you think of manual labour, or of young kids starting out on their career – but what if we told you that apprenticeships are a superb option for those wanting to develop their leadership skills, progress in professional environments and grow in confidence – without a power tool in sight?

More importantly than that, if you’ve been paying into the Levy fund, you’ve already invested the money that funds these apprenticeships – and if you don’t act soon, you might lose what you’ve already paid out.

ILM – the Institute of Leadership and Management – with whom we are accredited for delivering and assessing apprenticeships – have some fascinating leadership facts and statistics; let’s explore some of those here:

Poor people management is hitting the efficiency of UK businesses by an average of 8%, costing UK PLC £84bn a year.

That sum is staggering – and poor people management can only stem from a lack of leadership skills – something which a Level 3 or 5 diploma for leaders and managers could improve, bringing better communication and management for teams of any size and preventing the loss of profits that inefficiency can bring.

When you also learn that a 2015 report from the CEBR – the Centre for Economics Business Research – showed that businesses and consumers alike would prefer to do business with an employer who has embraced apprenticeships for their workforce, and that recruitment in every industry acknowledges there is a significant skills gap when trying to fill leadership and management roles, it seems like the obvious solution;

87% of employers struggle to recruit staff who have the skills they need

Of these, 38% highlight management roles as the hardest to fill

If you invest your Levy funding in leadership and management apprenticeships you’ll develop your own committed and passionate people from within, you’ll improve the skills and experience within your own workforce, benefiting as an organisation from that development, and best of all your customers will recognise and appreciate that improvement, boosting the growth of your organisation.

With businesses across the UK paying into the apprenticeship Levy since April 2017 the funds have been building up for some time – but a significant number of those businesses still aren’t sure where or how to spend that investment, still believing that apprenticeships are a niche area for study which don’t meet their needs.

No matter what industry you’re in, that Levy investment you’ve already made is there to benefit your organisation – and the leadership and management apprenticeships which we can tailor to your company’s specific needs will boost the skills and understanding of your future leaders, improving the organisation exponentially, with no further outlay because you’ve already invested that funding.

The UK’s management skills gap has seen us falling behind the other G8 nations in recent years – yet still managers and leaders are the least likely to receive formal training within their organisation; it’s time to buck that trend and look to your future, and the future leaders who prepare to take the helm.

More people than ever before are eligible for apprenticeship training – and too many employers aren’t even aware that they’re missing out; in fact, the recent City & Guilds Skills Shortage Nation report revealed that just 19% of employers are aware that managers, directors and senior official job roles could be being filled right now by apprentices, and 59% of the UK’s HR professionals are not aware of new standards that allow apprenticeships to be used as a developmental tool which will prevent the skills gap crisis impacting their organisation.

At Management Apprentice we take huge pride in our market-leading management apprenticeship solutions, which are designed to create a more qualified and better trained workforce. Our end-to-end offer has been custom built for apprenticeships and includes qualifications, training resources, end point assessment and digital credentials. Working with two other companies – ASK Europe and Insight Solutions – we have brought together three decades of experience, knowledge and expertise, all of which is brought together in the Level 3 and Level 5 Leadership and Management Diplomas which could be the solution to your organisation’s needs.

Levy funding investments will expire

In April 2017 the way that apprenticeships are funded changed, with the introduction of Levy Funding; those businesses which qualified invested these sums to an apprenticeship service account with the intention of using those funds to develop the skills and qualifications of team members – but, with little idea about what to do next, many have gone no further, unsure of how to progress, leaving the funds sitting and building as they ponder what to do next.

One thing many people haven’t factored in is that there is a cut off point for this money – that 24 months after the initial investment, the invested sum will expire. This means that your money – money which you have already spent through this investment programme, could go to waste, and you will no longer be able to access it for the education of your organisation’s apprentices.

As April 2017 is the earliest these investments could be backdated to, that means that April of this year is the point when many invested sums will begin to expire – and this could be what happens to your money.

To prevent missing out on the chance to benefit from the investment you have – as we said – already made, consider spending the funds which are building up in your apprenticeship investing account on our management apprenticeship courses, which will develop the skills and experience of your workforce; work with us to build the managers and leaders of tomorrow within your existing team.

For more information on the programmes, on how we handle the stress of the finances, and how our courses can enhance the skills, knowledge and professional expertise of your future leaders and managers, give us a call or download our guide, and let’s make the most of the investment you’ve already made, before it’s too late.

World of Learning

Today and tomorrow we are thrilled to be at the World of Learning event in Birmingham – and we are even more thrilled that we will be bringing some special guests; take a peek at this video from our good friends over at ASK Europe, and come to stand G60 to meet our team, talk about management apprenticeships and pick up a few of our brochures.

Don’t forget to say hello to our very own Alia Taub, who will be giving a presentation on Management Apprenticeships, a route to leadership.

Not going to Uni? There’s another path to success.

Once seen as the poor relative of further education, modern Apprenticeships are far more than a backup plan or a fall-back if you didn’t get the A level results you needed for your university of choice.

Apprenticeships offer an on-the-job learning experience that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom – and the chance to earn as you learn. This means that, rather than being a second choice, opting for an apprenticeship could see you climbing the career ladder sooner, with less student debts, and gaining invaluable in-role experience as you complete your studies.

When you’ve followed a path through education that traditionally wants to guide you towards university, it can feel like the bottom has dropped out of your world if you don’t get the A level grades you were hoping for – but we have guided a great many people through their Level 3 and Level 5 diplomas in Leadership and Development, who have gone on to achieve successful, top-level careers in a wide range of industries.

Apprenticeships in Leadership and Development can take you anywhere – no matter what professional environment you see in your future, the invaluable skills you’ll learn during the process will bring out your best and take you to the top of your game.

Even if you achieved top marks across the board in your A levels, university might not be the direction you see yourself going in – after all, it’s another three years of debts and shared accommodation that just might not be your bag; instead, consider embracing the opportunity to cement your leadership skills, earn as you progress, and let us oversee your apprenticeship.

Call us today for more details, and download our programme guide to see exactly what Management Apprentice can do for you.

Leading by example

One of the best things about enabling members of your team to study an apprenticeship in leadership and management is that apprentices are on the ground, in role, as they learn – which means that you are seeing the impact of applying what is learned on the team around you, in real time.

This means not only that the learners have the chance to gain a deeper, more relevant understanding of the things they’re learning, of how they can be applied to the workplace, and how significant each aspect of their development is for their own growth, but for the growth and success of your team, and for the ongoing future of your organisation. The better developed and more highly skilled your workforce are, the stronger your position in the ever-growing market, protecting your company in industry through upskilling and supporting your workforce through development and growth that benefits their career as well as your brand.

Another powerful side effect of apprenticeships is that the people within the learner’s organisation are witnessing and participating in this growth and development. This supportive environment proves to your employees that growth and ongoing development are key, that the culture of learning and development is an integral aspect of your organisation, and that you will support their ambitions for future progression.

In turn, this opens the door to further experience, greater growth and development, to the support of the organisation in this growth, and to a team that is future proofing against changes in the industry, embracing adaptability and building a greater skillset and understanding of the industry, the organisation, the role of leadership in a changing world, and keeping on top of new trends and new technologies.

The most successful leaders aren’t all-knowing, all-powerful – they are human, they listen to their team, they understand that success comes from utilising the strengths of each team member, creating a cohesive, successful whole – rather than depending on one person to be all things.

Allowing for a culture of growth and learning sets a powerful example, and encouraging apprenticeships as a path to development allows people to apply their learning, to develop in a safe and supportive environment, and to benefit from this support so that they can climb the career ladder within an organisation that has always been on their side.

Apprenticeships used to be the poor relation of further education – and this is something we are proud to have been part of changing. The apprenticeships we offer are a widely respected, impactful way to develop any career, and to obtain the knowledge and understanding of leadership, the psychology of leaders, the important traits and behaviours that will make a successful leader, and the tasks and activities that are vital to the role.

Call us today for more information on how we can help you to enable members of your team to take up an apprenticeship in leadership and development – and how, thanks to Levy Funding, it won’t need to cost you a penny.

Apprenticeships vs University

In years gone by there was an elitist assumption that a university education was better than an apprenticeship – that apprenticeships were just for those who weren’t ‘smart’ enough for further education and had to ‘get a trade’ instead.

Sadly, this is a reputation that has stuck with Apprenticeships, despite the fact that you can finish with a qualification equivalent to a Master’s Degree, that Apprenticeships can be applied to a wide range of professions and industries, and even to Leadership and Management.

Because of this negative association, more people than ever are choosing to go to University – to spend three years (at least!) working towards a qualification that no longer has the clout it once had in the job market, missing out on work experience in their chosen industry in that time – and getting tens of thousands of pounds into debt in the process.

All that, only to find that they are less likely than ever to find employment, as the market in so many industries is crying out for experienced, dedicated, qualified people – claiming that there is a gap in the job market that needs to be filled with the next generation of skilled workers, workers with experience and knowledge to apply to these vacant roles, and at a time when Britain worries about a post-Brexit future which will see far fewer skilled workers entering our job market from Europe, we are here to champion the world of Apprenticeships.

No matter what industry you are hoping to choose to progress your career, we can offer professional Apprenticeship qualifications at Level 3 (supervisor/team leader) and Level 5 (Regional or Operational Manager) which will be recognised by any profession as the industry standard for leadership qualifications.

These qualifications can not only showcase the skills you have in leading and planning, in developing a team, in achieving targets and problem solving, but can also bolster the confidence you have in your knowledge, plug any gaps in your experience with relevant, industry specific learning, and you will be supported through the entire process by mentors from within your organisation and by one of our experienced, professional trainers. Apprentices learn in-role, meaning that they can continue working throughout the course – with occasional workshop days out of the workplace, and shadowing others in the organisation for experiential learning of how the new information is applied to day-to-day, real life management.

As well as accessing the learning through your trainer and mentor, you will also find a wealth of additional learning materials, support and peer engagement from others taking the same courses with our online E-learning Management System, which all students on our Apprenticeship courses can access throughout their learning.

On top of all that – you don’t have to leave work to complete an Apprenticeship; you can earn while you learn, and there are funding options that mean not only will this qualification cost you nothing, it can also cost your employers nothing, thanks to Government Levy Funding, benefitting them by increasing your skills and knowledge, and benefitting you by developing your career skills so that you can work towards promotion and progression as you learn.

If your employer is a Levy payer, and you live in England, there are no additional costs to you or to them, and modern apprenticeships are a forward-thinking, hands-on approach to building the career you’ve always dreamed of.

No matter what position you are in, no matter your age or level of experience, Apprenticeships are open to all – and you could be on your way to greater success, greater job satisfaction, and higher earnings – so what are you waiting for?

Call today, or fill in our contact form, and let us talk you through how our Level 3 or Level 5 diplomas for Leadership and Management could be just the thing to take you where you want to be.
